D Chutes
Alpine Meadows

About this zone
A short band of steep, north-facing couloirs cut between exposed rock ribs, with some fun glades over in North Peril. The D Chutes are punchy fall-line lines: narrow entrances, tight rock bands, and short, committed exits that funnel into Wolverine Bowl. When they’re filled in, the north aspect does a good job keeping the snow cold and dry.
Best When
Best after storms have filled up the chutes and trees. Despite being close to the summit, conditions hold up well when there have been high winds.
Watch Out For
Wind-scouring up top and along the chutes. As mentioned, some chutes have tighter choke points than others, so best to scope them out or go with someone experienced.
