Outer Limits
Alpine Meadows

About this zone
Outer Limits sits just beyond Alpine Meadows’ boundary and skis like true sidecountry. Accessed off Lakeview, it’s a quiet pocket of mostly south-facing glades where the trees add shelter and a more textured, natural feel than what you’ll find inbounds. When timing and coverage are right it can feel surprisingly untracked for how close it is to the resort, and it’s an easy way to change the pace when the main mountain has been picked over.
Best When
Go here after a storm or a day or two later when inbounds is chopped and you’re hunting for preserved snow in sheltered trees. The south-facing tilt can be a plus in mid-winter cold and will also soften in sunnier weather if temps cooperate, so it works well when you want quieter laps and don’t mind the extra effort and commitment that comes with stepping out of bounds.
Watch Out For
This is out of bounds, with no signage or patrol, so route-finding and judgment are entirely on you. The glades can get dense and steeper in spots, and drifting too far skiers left commits you to a longer, more annoying hike out. Most skiers favor staying skiers right to shorten the exit back toward Sherwood, but either way expect a walk on the road to get home. Know where you’re going before you drop, and be comfortable taking responsibility for the exit.
