Palisades Bowl
Kirkwood

About this zone
Palisades Bowl is a hike-to, advanced zone tucked high on the ridge past Sentinel Bowl, accessed from Chair 6. It sits beneath Martin Point and feels a bit removed from the main flow of Kirkwood, which is part of the appeal. The terrain is relatively open up high, flirting with treeline, then funnels into widely spaced trees as you drop. Lines are straightforward but committing, with a quiet, alpine feel and far fewer people than most lift-served terrain.
Best When
This zone shines when you’re willing to trade convenience for space. After storms or on cold, clear days, the east-facing aspect and high elevation can hold quality snow while the rest of the mountain gets skied out. It’s a good choice when crowds are building elsewhere and you don’t mind the traverse, short hike, and long glide out into Timber Creek. Spring can also be nice early in the day before the sun gets to it.
Watch Out For
It’s a long way from help and not a fast lap. Wind exposure near the ridge can leave snow firm or scoured, and visibility can be poor in storms with little definition up high. Once you drop, you’re committed to exiting toward Timber Creek, which makes getting back to Chair 6 a bit of a slog. Keep an eye on energy and timing, especially late in the day.
