About this zone

The Wall is Kirkwood’s most obvious statement piece: a steep, sustained face staring you down from the drive in and all the way up the chair. This is true expert terrain—short on subtlety, long on pitch. The skiing is direct and physical, with a demanding fall line right off the ridge that gradually eases as you drop toward the lower mountain. From the top, it also opens gates into Wagon Wheel Bowl and, farther skier’s right, Eagle Bowl.

Best When

Cold storms and mid-winter cycles suit The Wall best. It’s high elevation and north-facing, so it holds snow well and stays chalky longer than most of Kirkwood. Early laps after a storm are the reward; once traffic hits it, moguls form fast and stay firm. Clear visibility matters here—this is not terrain you want to feel out blindly.

Watch Out For

There’s no easy way down and no margin for mistakes. Cornices and steep drop-ins at the ridge are real, especially after storms or wind events. When it’s skied out, the upper pitch can be unforgiving, and slides here would run a long way. People do get hurt on The Wall, often due to fatigue or committing past their comfort level. If you’re not confident linking steep, sustained turns in variable snow, this isn’t the place to figure it out.
