Lookout Mountain
Northstar

About this zone
Lookout Mountain is a more isolated, advanced zone built around north-facing steeps and tight trees. It’s reached via Lookout Link, and once you’re in, it skis like a sheltered little pocket that can hold soft snow well thanks to the tree cover, despite the lower elevation. Most people end up sampling a mix of short, punchy pitches, with the lift line serving as an obvious reference for finding your way through.
Best When
This zone is at its best during and right after cold winter storms, when the trees keep you out of the wind and the snow stays soft in the shaded, north-facing terrain. If you’re looking for protected, technical skiing and don’t mind a more contained area that gets tracked, it’s a strong choice for storm-day laps and post-storm cleanup.
Watch Out For
Being lower elevation, it can run heavier and warm faster than higher zones, and you may not get the same overnight reset. The dense trees keep things interesting but also make it easier to lose your line, so keep your bearings and expect tighter exits than the open face might suggest. In lean coverage, the steeper lines and the lift-line corridor can hide firm spots and obstacles under the canopy.
