Granite Chief Peak / Granite Glades
Palisades Tahoe

About this zone
Skiers’ left off Granite Chief, this zone spans everything from true big-mountain lines off the peak to playful, technical glades lower down. The hike to Granite Chief Peak is short but real, and the skiing up top is committing, exposed, and very much expert-only. Drop lower and the tone shifts: the terrain funnels into a broad bowl, then breaks into dense glades with a rhythm of small rolls, mini-bowls, and flat benches that keep things interesting. It skis differently than the rest of Granite Chief, with more trees and a slightly more sheltered feel once you’re off the peak.
Best When
This zone shines when you’re looking to earn turns and mix technical skiing with tree skiing in the same lap. The more easterly aspect means it can ski well a bit earlier in the day and offers a different snow feel than the more northerly terrain nearby. Strong legs and good visibility help, especially if you’re pushing all the way to the peak, but dropping in lower keeps things more approachable while still delivering quality terrain.
Watch Out For
The summit lines are serious and unforgiving; route choice matters and mistakes add up quickly. Snow quality can change fast between exposed alpine, the bowl, and the trees. As you work farther skier’s left, the drainage back to the lift gets flat, and losing speed at the bottom often means a slog, especially for snowboarders. Plan your exit and carry momentum.
