Upper Mountain
Palisades Tahoe

About this zone
Upper Mountain is Palisades’ broad, mellow learning bowl: long, rolling beginner and easy-intermediate pitches with big Lake Tahoe views. It’s a natural place to stack laps, take lessons, or just cruise without getting funneled into steeper terrain. It also concentrates a lot of resort infrastructure, including a terrain park and the Gold Coast Lodge, so the vibe is busy and central rather than remote.
Best When
This zone is a solid call right after storms, when its higher elevation and typically leeward positioning help it hold onto new snow and stay a bit more protected than exposed ridgelines. It also skis well when you want straightforward, low-commitment laps or a predictable place to regroup, especially earlier in the day before traffic builds.
Watch Out For
Because it’s a main learning and transit area, crowds and mixed ability levels are the norm, so keep your speed in check and expect sudden stops and merges. Wind can strip snow and leave firm patches, particularly higher up toward the crest, and weather can change fast at elevation. The terrain park adds extra crossing traffic, so look uphill and give it space.
